Terms & Privacy
A plain-English overview of the rules for using YMIR Mods, what creators can expect when they upload content, and how account information is handled.
Terms of Service
1. Using YMIR Mods
YMIR Mods is a community mod-hosting and distribution service. By using the website, creator tools, download features, comments, or Creator API, you agree to these terms.
If you do not agree with them, please do not use the service. You are also responsible for meeting the age and account requirements of any connected sign-in provider you use.
2. What the service provides
YMIR hosts third-party Valheim mods and related information such as descriptions, screenshots, version history, download counts, likes, creator pages, comments, and changelogs.
Mods are made by their respective creators. Hosting a mod on YMIR does not mean YMIR created, approved, tested, or guarantees that mod.
3. Accounts
Accounts may be connected through services such as Discord or GitHub. You are responsible for activity performed through your account and for keeping access to those third-party accounts secure.
- Do not impersonate another creator or person.
- Do not deliberately misrepresent ownership of a mod.
- Do not share Creator API keys publicly.
- If you believe your account or API key has been compromised, revoke the key and contact YMIR as soon as practical.
4. Your mods and other content
You keep ownership of content you upload. YMIR does not claim ownership of your mod simply because it is hosted here.
By uploading a mod, image, description, changelog, comment, or other content, you give YMIR a non-exclusive permission to store, reproduce, display, distribute, and make that content available through the website and related YMIR services for the purpose of operating and promoting the platform.
You confirm that you have the rights or permission needed to upload the material. If your mod contains third-party assets, libraries, music, images, or code, you are responsible for following the licences and permissions that apply to them.
5. Upload and community rules
Please do not use YMIR to upload or distribute:
- malware, credential stealers, destructive code, or files intended to compromise another person or system;
- stolen mods or content you do not have permission to redistribute;
- intentionally misleading files, descriptions, download claims, or creator information;
- content that is unlawful in the place where it is hosted or served;
- spam, harassment, threats, or repeated abuse through comments or creator pages;
- attempts to manipulate likes, downloads, comments, or other site metrics through bots or automation.
YMIR may remove, hide, deprecate, or restrict content when there is a security, legal, abuse, copyright, or service-integrity concern.
6. Comments and replies
Comments are there to help creators and users discuss mods, report issues, make requests, and share useful feedback. Keep conversations relevant and respectful.
Creators and YMIR administrators may moderate comment threads. Comments may be removed when they are abusive, spammy, unlawful, or unrelated to the purpose of the mod page.
7. Creator API and automated access
Creator API keys are intended for authorised creator workflows such as release automation and GitHub Actions. Do not use the API to bypass access controls, scrape the service aggressively, probe for vulnerabilities, or interfere with normal site operation.
YMIR may limit, revoke, or disable API access where necessary to protect the service or other users.
8. Copyright and takedown requests
If you believe material hosted on YMIR infringes your copyright or other rights, contact us with enough information to identify the work, the YMIR page or file involved, your relationship to the rights holder, and a way for us to contact you.
We may temporarily disable access to disputed material while a complaint is reviewed. Repeated or serious infringement may result in account or upload restrictions.
9. YMIR branding and third-party names
The YMIR Mods name, site design, original graphics, and platform code belong to YMIR or their respective licensors.
Valheim and other game, company, product, or platform names belong to their respective owners. YMIR Mods is a community project and is not presented as an official Valheim service.
10. Suspension, removal, and account closure
You may stop using YMIR at any time. YMIR may suspend accounts, revoke API keys, remove content, or restrict access when someone repeatedly breaks these terms, creates a security risk, infringes rights, or seriously disrupts the service.
Where practical, we will try to use proportionate moderation rather than jumping straight to permanent removal.
11. Mods and service availability
YMIR and the mods hosted on it are provided on an “as available” basis. Mods can break after game updates, conflict with other mods, corrupt saves, behave differently on servers, or stop being maintained.
Back up important game data before installing mods. YMIR cannot promise uninterrupted service, permanent file availability, compatibility, or that every uploaded mod is free from defects.
12. Liability
To the extent allowed by applicable law, YMIR is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses arising from third-party mods, unavailable files, account misuse, data loss, game-save damage, server issues, or reliance on content posted by users.
Nothing in these terms is intended to remove rights or protections that cannot legally be excluded.
13. Changes to these terms
YMIR will change these terms from time to time as the site grows. When a meaningful change is made, the “Last updated” date on this page will be changed as well.
14. Contact
For general questions, moderation issues, or legal/takedown requests, contact the YMIR Mods team through the YMIR Community Discord .
Privacy Policy
1. Information YMIR may hold
Depending on how you use the site, YMIR may store information such as:
- your YMIR username and public display name;
- account identifiers supplied by Discord or GitHub;
- an email address when a connected sign-in provider makes one available to YMIR;
- profile/avatar information supplied by a connected account;
- mods, descriptions, icons, changelogs, comments, replies, likes, and other content you submit;
- session information used to keep you signed in;
- Creator API key metadata. YMIR stores a cryptographic hash of active API keys rather than keeping the full key in readable form after it is created;
- service activity needed to operate features such as download counts, notifications, moderation, and version history.
2. Why this information is used
YMIR uses account and service information to:
- sign you in and maintain your account;
- show creator profiles and ownership of uploaded mods;
- host, update, and distribute mod files;
- operate likes, comments, replies, notifications, and downloads;
- provide Creator API access and release automation;
- investigate abuse, security incidents, and moderation reports;
- maintain and improve the reliability of the service.
3. Cookies and sessions
YMIR uses a session cookie to keep signed-in users authenticated. It is used for account access and site functionality rather than advertising.
Your browser may also store small local preferences, such as the mod sorting option you last selected.
4. Connected services and hosting
YMIR relies on third-party services to provide parts of the platform. These currently include Cloudflare for hosting, storage and database infrastructure, plus Discord and GitHub for connected sign-in.
When you use those services, their own privacy terms may also apply to information they process independently of YMIR.
5. Sharing information
YMIR does not sell user account information to advertisers.
Information may be shared with service providers where necessary to operate the site, or where disclosure is reasonably required to respond to valid legal process, protect users, investigate abuse, or protect the security of the service.
Information you intentionally publish — such as creator names, mod pages, comments, and replies — is public by nature.
6. Retention and deletion
YMIR keeps account and content information for as long as it is reasonably needed to operate the service, maintain version history, handle moderation, or meet legal and security needs.
When an account or mod is deleted, associated records and hosted files may also be removed. Some limited records may need to remain for a period where they are required for security, dispute handling, backups, or legal obligations.
7. Security
YMIR uses reasonable technical measures to protect accounts and creator tools, including hashed API keys and server-side session handling. No internet service can promise perfect security.
Do not post passwords, API keys, access tokens, or other secrets in mod descriptions, comments, screenshots, or public repositories.
8. Access, corrections, and deletion requests
If information on your account is wrong, creators can update certain public profile information from their dashboard. For other access, correction, or deletion requests, contact the YMIR Mods team through the community Discord.
9. International users
YMIR is available to users in different countries. The providers used to run the service may process or store information in regions different from where you live.
10. Privacy policy changes
This policy may be updated as YMIR adds new features or changes service providers. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date shown at the top of this page.
11. Privacy contact
For privacy questions or requests, contact the YMIR Mods team through the YMIR Community Discord .
